Global News published this video item, entitled “COVID-19: Alberta premier, health officials provide update as 4th wave continues | FULL” – below is their description.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney will join chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw, newly appointed Health Minister Jason Copping and Justice Minister Kaycee Madu Tuesday to update COVID-19 in the province.
The fourth wave of COVID-19 continues to hammer the province’s health-care system.
On Monday, Alberta confirmed 5,181 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend. The province also reported that 1,063 patients were in hospital with the disease, and 265 of them in intensive care.
Twenty-three additional deaths from COVID-19 were recorded on the weekend, bringing the provincial death toll from the disease to 2,645.
On Monday, 58 ICU doctors in the province released a letter saying the health-care system remains on the verge of collapse.
The doctors, from every corner of the province, say it’s “not too late to change course” when it comes to slowing down the fourth wave — though the time to act is now.
They agreed with the data presented in last week’s news conference by the Alberta government, and the decision to implement further public health measures. The ICU physicians hope the measures remain in place until case numbers go down.
