Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will provide an update after the province tested 156 travellers for the Omicron variant.
On Monday, Premier Jason Kenney announced the testing of travellers who had returned over the previous two weeks from countries that Canada identified for enhanced border measures to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 variant of concern.
According to Kenney, the travellers were contacted with information on current protocols, including testing and quarantine requirements.
Those contacted were also offered household rapid testing kits in addition to PCR tests.
Alberta also released enhanced measures to reduce the spread of the Omicron variant on Monday.
