COVID-19: 5th wave brings frustration, fatigue to Toronto’s Humber River Hospital

Global News published this video item, entitled “COVID-19: 5th wave brings frustration, fatigue to Toronto’s Humber River Hospital” – below is their description.

The intensive care unit at Toronto’s Humber River Hospital is dealing with two types of patients: those unvaccinated against COVID-19, and the immunocompromised – but staff are also feeling the strain. During the first two years of the pandemic, around 500 workers there caught COVID-19, though, with Omicron, they’ve seen 700 infections in January alone.

There are more than 4,000 COVID-19 patients in Ontario hospitals right now, with more than 570 in intensive care. The province says ICU admissions are expected to peak in mid-February. Jeff Semple speaks with overwhelmed health-care workers and some of their patients, including those who are not infected with the coronavirus.
