Sophie, Countess of Wessex has described the Duke of Edinburgh’s final moments as “peaceful”.

Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex and their daughter, Lady Louise, 17, attended a small church service at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor.

They chatted to members of the congregation as well as people who work on the Windsor estate to thank them for their support particularly over the last few days.

Following the service, the Countess of Wessex said: “It was right for him. It was so gentle. It was just like somebody took him by the hand and off he went. Very, very peaceful. And that’s all you want for somebody isn’t it?”
