World Health Organization officials are expected to hold a media briefing on Friday to provide an update on the global pandemic situation as worldwide cases hit 30 million in total. The U.S. remains the country with most confirmed COVID-19 infections globally, with a total of 6.7 million cases. Weeks away from the U.S. elections, Trump said Wednesday that he expects a COVID-19 vaccine to be ready before, or shortly after the elections, while WHO said it doesn’t expect a vaccine until mid-2021. Canada, like many other countries around the world, is seeing a resurgence of COVID-19 cases with over 900 cases reported Wednesday. WHO experts repeatedly stressed the importance of “collective action” as countries continue to respond to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, and said that developing a safe and effective vaccine will depend on countries working together. Over 20 million people around the world have recovered from COVID-19.
