The US chief medical adviser, Dr Anthony Fauci, has said the country is ‘still knee-deep in the first wave of this’ when talking about the coronavirus outbreak, adding that cases have doubled as states and cities attempt to reopen their economies.
Fauci also said scientists would know if one or more Covid-19 vaccines were safe and effective by the end of this year or the beginning of 2021, and that manufacturers were working on producing the vaccines even before testing is complete, so doses can be distributed as soon as one or more of them are proven safe and effective
