U.S. Adm. Brett Giroir, assistant secretary of Health and Human Services, demonstrated on Monday at the White House the new rapid, point-of-care coronavirus test developed by Abbott Laboratories, following President Donald Trump’s announcement that his administration will distribute 150 million tests across the country. Giroir said the test “couldn’t be easier” as he self-swabbed himself with a nasal swab to perform the new 15-minute COVID-19 test. He added that the test generally to be done by a health-care provider. The admiral said distribution has already begun with 65,000 tests shipped to disaster operations in California, Oregon, Texas and Louisiana.
