The United States has recorded the biggest daily total of deaths for any one country, according to one of the websites reporting daily death tolls in that country.
In the past 24 hours, 1,900 people have died – a huge jump on the previous daily highest total.
Australia has been successful so far in limiting the spread of the disease, but like other countries, there has been a huge economic cost.
