The total number of active COVID-19 infections across the nation has dropped below 500.
Those numbers come as the federal government ramps up pressure on some states and territories to remove border restrictions saying the closures are crippling the tourism industry.

08:00 – The Prime Minister will use a keynote speech to outline the government’s plans to reset the economy. Scott Morrison will unveil a new “job maker” plan, aimed at simplifying training and skills.
0:30 – In South Australia the easing to stage two restrictions has been brought forward a week to Monday. And in Victoria the youngest and oldest students are returning to school today.
0:40 – Human trials for a potential COVID-19 vaccine get under way in Australia today. Tests will begin in Melbourne before the trial is expanded to Brisbane and will involve about 130 healthy participants aged 18 to 59 years.
0:55 – The World Health Organisation has suspended the use of hydroxychloroquine in its global study into experimental COVID-19 treatments, due to safety concerns.
1:05 – Japan’s government has lifted a nationwide state of emergency, removing disaster declarations from Tokyo and four other regions.
1:15 – There has been a positive case of coronavirus at Waverley College in Sydney’s east, just one day after students across New South Wales returned to classrooms full time.
