0:00 – There are 16 new cases of coronavirus in Victoria over the past 24 hours. The state’s Health Minster and Chief Health Officer have just held a news conference as the state grapples with a spike in COVID-19 cases.
4:20 – The situation in Victoria is worrying the premiers of other states which have far fewer reported cases. In New South Wales there have been 2 new cases, while in Queensland there has been none.

10:59 – Brazil’s health ministry has confirmed that the number of coronavirus deaths in the country has passed 50,000.
It’s the second highest death toll from COVID-19 in the world after the United States.
More than a million cases of the disease have been recorded in Brazil, but it’s believed the real figure is much higher because of a lack of widespread testing.
11:20 – The all-important reproduction rate for COVID-19 infections in Germany has risen to nearly 2.9.
The number which represents how many others one confirmed case will infect – jumped by more than one point in a day.
The rising case numbers reflect a number of outbreaks across the country – the largest being at an abattoir in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
More than 1,300 infections have now been detected there.
Authorities are refusing to impose a lockdown – saying the cases are confined to the meat-workers and their families.
