Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: UK lockdown starting to have an effect on virus spread, Boris Johnson says” – below is their description.
When answering questions from U.K. opposition leader Keir Starmer during the weekly prime minister’s questions session of parliament, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday that tougher COVID-19 restrictions brought in last week were starting to have an effect on the spread of the virus in some parts of the country.
However, Johnson cautioned that it was still early days, with the current lockdown due to last until mid-February but with many fearing it will extend into March. The prime minister also said he did not rule out bringing in even tougher restrictions to try and temper the spread of the coronavirus, which has largely been driven by a new variant.
Johnson stated Britain would make 24/7 vaccine centres open to the general public as soon as possible. His government has said it will ramp up its COVID-19 vaccination program to at least 2 million shots a week in England by the end of January.
