Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: Trudeau says lack of domestic vaccine production the reason for Canada’s wait” – below is their description.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday spoke about the potential wait for a COVID-19 vaccine when some countries are announcing a possible rollout of their vaccination plans in December, saying Canada does not have domestic vaccine production capacity but are working to build this up so they’re not cut short again. He added they signed a record number of deals with potential vaccine producers in order to make sure people get the vaccines as quickly and effectively as possible. Asked when the government would be ready to distribute vaccines for COVID-19 once they are produced, Trudeau said that it was “premature” to circle a date or say a certain community can expect the vaccine by a certain date, but said they were working with partners including the military on distribution of the vaccine to ensure it is provided as quickly as possible. Trudeau was also asked whether he had received guarantees the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines won’t be delayed by other countries’ vaccination programs and said they are working with international allies and the companies to ensure there’s a free flow of the contracts. He said equitable access to the vaccine was discussed during the G20 summit and they’re working together to ensure one country doesn’t distribute vaccines before anyone else.
