Toronto Mayor John Tory is expected to provide an update on the city’s response to COVID-19 on Monday, as the 1st batch of coronavirus vaccines arrived in the province Sunday night.
Tory will be joined by Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, and Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg to make the announcement.
Ontario said it will administer the province’s first COVID-19 vaccination Monday, with Premier Doug Ford’s office stating a health-care worker will receive the first dose at a hospital in Toronto.
The province was to receive 6,000 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine this weekend, and plans to give them to approximately 2,500 health-care workers in the first phase of its immunization plan.
Ontario reported a total of 1,677 new coronavirus cases Sunday, with 456 in Toronto. York Region is also expected to enter lockdown lockdown under Ontario’s COVID-19 pandemic plan on Monday.
