The federal government has bought 7.9 million rapid COVID-19 tests, but the Abbott Labs’ ID Now tests won’t be delivered for months.
Experts have suggested the tests could help clear some of the backlog in laboratories, and will make testing more accessible for more Canadians.
But the tests won’t all be released at once, and there are concerns as well about the test’s reliability. In the spring, the U.S. Federal Drug Administration raised an alarm about the Abbott test’s high number of false negatives. Abigail Bimman has those details.
