Coronavirus: Quebec announces new regional COVID-19 alert system | FULL

Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: Quebec announces new regional COVID-19 alert system | FULL” – below is their description.

As Quebec continues to see an upward trend in novel coronavirus cases, the province’s health minister, Christian Dube, unveiled the new regional COVID-19 alert system to allow people to measure the state of the pandemic in the province’s different regions. He said the alert is a four-tiered system to allow for “predictability,” which is colour-coded and ranges from green to red, saying the red level or “maximum alert” is where they don’t want to get to. Dube said that while he could not give specifics, when alert levels change for various provincial regions under the province’s new alert system, there will be measures that are put in place and more inspections will likely take place to ensure adherence. He also said that in terms of various regions, for example Montreal, there is the possibility a sub-region could see an orange level while another could be in green. In terms of changing alert levels, Dube said the criteria for determining the threat level under the province’s new COVID-19 alert system includes the number of cases per million residents and the number of outbreaks in the province. Chief medical officer of health Dr. Horatio Arruda added that efforts under each alert level in the new provincial system must change if the level changes. The province reported an increase in cases on Monday, with 216 newly confirmed positive tests. The total has risen to 63,713 since the health crisis began.
