There has been an alarming surge of COVID-19 cases across Canada and records are being broken on a near-daily basis. A majority of the country’s confirmed cases come from Ontario and Quebec, which have restricted activities to try to curb the spread of the virus. There was also a new daily case record set in Alberta, where provincial officials reported 1,026 COVID-19 diagnoses on Saturday and three deaths. There are calls for authorities to do more to stop the spread of the virus, but Mike Drolet explains why some provinces are hesitant to enforce restrictions.
