Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to provide an update on Canada’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday. Trudeau will be joined by Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam and Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Howard Njoo, as well as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc and Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages Mélanie Joly to make an announcement. Canada hit new milestones in the pandemic Thursday, as COVID-19 cases surged past 160,000 while the death toll topped 9,300. The country reported 1,776 new COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 160,368 lab-confirmed cases to date. Twenty-three new deaths were also announced, taking the national death toll to 9,320. While that’s the highest number reported in a single day since early July, 14 of those deaths occurred last week or earlier. On Tuesday it was also announced that the government had reached an agreement with Abbott Rapid Diagnostics for up to 7.9 million rapid point of care COVID-19 tests, which would provide results in “approximately 15 minutes.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/7373652/canada-approve-rapid-testing-managing-coronavirus-pandemic/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on Twitter HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #Coronavirus #Canada #JustinTrudeau #GlobalNews
