Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: Ontario training hundreds of lab workers to address COVID-19 test backlog” – below is their description.
Ontario is struggling to keep up with COVID-19 testing, with a backlog of more than 26,000 unprocessed tests. Global News has learned the province is launching a rapid training program which could put up to 600 workers into medical labs in hopes of easing the strain. The program will prepare up to 600 lab workers in a condensed, intensive two-day course online followed by two hours of in-person lab experience at the Michener Institute of Education at University Health Network starting Wednesday. The institute said the Ontario government was funding the training program. But, as Carolyn Jarvis reports, the province and the federal government have known about the labour shortage for years.
