Ontario Premier Doug Ford, alongside other officials including Health Minister and Deputy Premier Christine Elliott, is expected to deliver a COVID-19 briefing on Monday in Vaughan, Ont.
Ford announced the province will be providing $125 million in funding to add over 500 critical care beds in COVID-19 hot-spot regions amid the second wave of the pandemic.
On Sunday, the province’s labour minister said they would broaden the scope of their enforcement blitz on big-box retailers to the entire province after numerous violations of COVID-19 prevention protocols in the stores were found during initial checks at stores in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas.
The briefing comes as Ontario reported 3,422 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the provincial total to 237,786. Sunday’s count was higher than the day previous, which saw 3,056 cases. There were 69 deaths recorded on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 5,409.
