Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, Health Minister Christine Elliott and Gen. Rick Hillier on Friday met to discuss the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine in the province through the taskforce, which Ford said will be the largest vaccine rollout “in a generation” and a “massive logistical undertaking” that Ontario has “never seen.” The province reported 1,855 new cases of coronavirus on Friday — a new provincial record since the pandemic began — as the total now reaches 111,216. Friday’s case count beat the previous single-day high of 1,589 cases recorded on Monday. According to Friday’s provincial report, 517 cases were recorded in Peel Region, 494 in Toronto, 189 in York Region, 130 in Halton Region, 82 in Hamilton and 74 in Waterloo Region. All other public health units in Ontario reported under 70 new cases. The death toll in the province has risen to 3,595 as 20 more deaths were reported.
