Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to give an update Wednesday on the province’s ongoing response to COVID-19. He will be joined by Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott and Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo. On Tuesday, Ford announced that his government was investing an additional $1.3 billion towards COVID-19 testing and contact-tracing through its COVID-19 fall preparedness plan. The new funding will go to expand testing capacity and reduce backlogs, he said. Ford also announced that Ontario has surpassed a total of four million COVID-19 tests completed through its assessment centres, pharmacies, long-term care homes, pop-up and mobile testing units. Ontario reported 583 new coronavirus cases and one more death on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases to 55,945 and 2,988 deaths.
