Ontario coordinator of provincial outbreak response Dr. Adalsteinn Brown on Thursday discussed the key findings stemming from new projections for the province amid the second wave of COVID-19, saying that some key indicators are “flattening in some regions,” but describing the situation as “fragile and precarious.” Brown added it’s “difficult to determine” if there is a “true turnaround” in COVID-19 cases. Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams hosted the press conference Thursday to provide the update amid a lockdown in Peel and Toronto regions. Two weeks ago, the province unveiled modelling that showed Ontario could see as many as 6,500 new daily cases of COVID-19 by mid-December unless steps are taken to limit the spread of the virus. Ontario reported 1,478 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 109,361. Twenty-one more deaths were also announced on Thursday, bringing the provincial death toll to 3,575.
