Ontario Premier Doug Ford, alongside other ministers, held a press conference on Wednesday where he announced funding to support mental health for children and youth. The premier announced $11 million in provincial funding toward child and youth mental health services, amid mental health strains during the coronavirus pandemic. The funding will go toward 80 children and youth mental health service providers across Ontario to enable these institutions to hire more staff, increase counselling and therapy services and allow for an increase in intensive and crisis services. In addition, when asked about his government’s push to scrap ranked election ballots in the next election, Ford said “we don’t need any more complications on ranked ballots,” adding that this system of voting has been around since 1867. Ontario reported 790 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the provincial total to 66,686. Wednesday’s case count is a decrease from Tuesday’s, which saw 821 new cases, but an increase from Monday’s at 704. According to Wednesday’s provincial report, 321 new cases were recorded in Toronto, 157 in Peel Region, 76 in York Region, 57 in Ottawa and 43 in Durham Region. All other public health units in Ontario reported under 35 new cases.
