Mexico’s health ministry on Aug. 26 reported 6,026 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infections, bringing the total in the country to 579,914 as authorities have said cases are on a “declining trend.”
So far, Mexico registered 62,594 deaths nears a grim milestone though it is reported to be slowing down.
Mexico has now the third-highest death toll in the world, after Brazil, which is approaching 120,000, and the United States, which is over 180,000.
“In the last four weeks, the cases have decreased. The number of cases today is less than the number of cases the day before” said Mexican Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez-Gatell at a news conference in Mexico City.
Health ministry officials have said that both the number of both cases and deaths in Mexico are likely significantly higher than reported.
