In the UK, contrary to WHO advice, Government are following a “delay” strategy, and no longer seeking to contain the novel coronavirus, known as Covid-19. The strategy, if this term fits, is for Britain to acquire a “herd immunity” — something which several experts have said is a “gamble”.
The coronavirus outbreak is “likely to become an annual virus”, the Government’s chief scientific officer has conceded.
Sir Patrick Vallance said Britain needs “herd immunity” to combat the spread of Covid-19, but independent scientists have said Britain’s “timid” approach is “a gamble”.

Models suggest that herd immunity will be achieved at a 60% infection rate. What nobody is pointing out – perhaps to prevent mass panic – is that at a 1% mortality rate, 60% of the British public becoming infected with Covid-19 would result in 360,000 deaths.
