Community spread of COVID-19 is again seeping into Canada’s long-term care homes. British Columbia reported four new outbreaks at long-term care homes over the weekend, and there are now almost 20 outbreaks at long-term care, assisted living and acute care facilities in the province. In Ontario, 86 long-term care facilities now have outbreaks and more than 1900 residents have died. Nationally, about 80 per cent of COVID-19 related deaths have been in long-term care. Hiring and retaining staff in the facilities remains a huge issue, but as Mike Drolet reports there are concerns the solutions being considered are nothing more than band-aids.
