Coronavirus intensifies world’s worst humanitarian disaster in Yemen

A lack of international funding is forcing the UN to cut aid programmes in war-torn Yemen, now facing COVID-19 alongside famine, cholera and other diseases.

Sky News has filmed across the country, from the capital Sanaa to the divided city of Taiz and the southern port of Aden, where hundreds are thought to have died in the last few days.

A five-year civil war has already killed tens of thousands, with 24 million Yemenis in need of humanitarian assistance.

  1. ‘Dear Mr. BEZOS,

I know that you are the richest person in the world and that you worked hard for it with a brave idea in your garage. What I would like to know now is what you are going to do now with more money than any one human being should have at their disposal. I’m aware that you do some charity work but there are truly heartbreaking tradgies happening now. ‘The pandemic is the most obvious and I feel incredibly lucky to live in Ireland where we are making progress. The situation in Yemen a humanitarian disaster with women and chidren starving, without shelter or medicine. According to ACLED, over 100,000 people have been killed in Yemen, including more than 12,000 civilians, as well as estimates of more than 85,000 dead as a result of an ongoing famine due to the war. Mr. Bezos could we see some of that bravery and forward thinking helping these people. No Politics just human decency. You will always have a bed to sleep in, nourishing food and the best of medical care but spare a thought for the terrorised, war-torn, and women putting children to bed to watch them starve to death. I believe you are a decent person – but c’mon you’ve made it now share it.
