Ontario Premier Doug Ford is making an announcement Tuesday afternoon alongside Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Rod Phillips, Minister of Finance, and Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health as Ontario hit a new single-day high of COVID-19 cases ever recorded in Ontario. Ontario reported 1,050 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, bringing the provincial total to 78,705. According to Tuesday’s provincial report, 408 new cases were recorded in Toronto, 212 in Peel Region, 86 in Halton Region, 76 in York Region, 57 in Durham Region, 34 each in Ottawa and Hamilton, and 31 in Niagara. The Ontario government promised Monday to establish a new standard that would see nursing home residents receive an average of four hours of direct care every day, but critics said the province wasn’t moving fast enough to implement the measure.
