Coronavirus: Feds update Canadians on vaccines, Meng Wanzhou case, Indian farmer protests | FULL

Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: Feds update Canadians on vaccines, Meng Wanzhou case, Indian farmer protests | FULL” – below is their description.

The Canadian Armed Forces are holding simulations tests of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan, with a “series of exercise and run-throughs,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday outside Rideau Cottage, where he delivered an update on the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

He added that freezers for the future vaccines have been purchased, and dry ice contracts are being negotiated.

The prime minister also commented on the detainment of the “two Michaels.” When asked about a Wall Street Journal report that said the U.S. government was negotiating with Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou to return to China from Canada in exchange for admitting wrongdoing, and if Canada was involved in the discussions, Trudeau said that he is “not going to comment on these reports,” but his government’s priority is the safe return home of two Canadians detained in China, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor.

And when asked about his comments made earlier this week when he said he was concerned about Indian farmers protesting against farm reforms, mostly in the state of Punjab, Trudeau responded that Canada will “always stand up for the right for peaceful protest,” anywhere around the world, but did not further elaborate on how his remarks could impact relations with India.

Canadian federal health officials also provided their COVID-19 update in Ottawa.

The latest long-range COVID-19 modelling forecast shows if Canada stays on the same trajectory it’s currently on, the country could reach 10,000 COVID-19 cases daily by January, warned chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam on Friday.

She added that the good news is Canada is “well-positioned” to provide access to safe and effective vaccines for the novel coronavirus.
