Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, alongside Small Business Minister Mary Ng and National Revenue Minister Diane Lebouthillier, announced supports for small businesses, non-profits and charities impacted by coronavirus-related lockdowns. The “Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy” will offer up to 65 per cent of rent support to qualifying businesses. As well, the new “Lockdown Support” is expected to provide support to those businesses temporarily forced to close or significantly curtail activities by offering a 25 per cent top-up. The new supports come as cases continue to surge across Canada, resulting in added restrictions and lockdowns in some areas, prompting some businesses to close.
