Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: Canada’s commercial rent subsidy ends without replacement” – below is their description.
The Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) has expired. The federal government has promised to replace and improve its program to help businesses struggling to pay rent. But as Mike Drolet reports, nothing is being done yet and that’s causing anxiety. Plus, the federal COVID-19 Alert app still isn’t available in a huge swath of Canada, since Ottawa can’t force provinces to use the contact-tracing technology. From the day the app rolled out (July 31) to Sept. 22, just 375 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have logged their diagnosis. Despite the relatively low number of downloads, Canada’s top doctor, Theresa Tam, said earlier this month that the app needed time to prove its effectiveness. Heather Yourex-West looks at where it’s not being used yet, and why.
