Canada’s federal ministers and health officials delivered an update on the government’s latest response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Tuesday.

Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, said Tuesday that 122,872 cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed. Over the past seven days, she said, Canada has averaged over 380 cases a day.

Tam encouraged young people across the country to come forward with their ideas about how to limit the spread of COVID-19. She suggested “youth influencers” might be leveraged to spread the message.

Since Canada saw its first known case in January, 9,032 people in the country have died. Eighty-nine per cent of those who have become infected have recovered.
