Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: Canada announces agreement for 7.9 million rapid COVID-19 tests | FULL” – below is their description.
Minister of Public Services and Procurement Anita Anand announced Tuesday that the government had reached an agreement with Abbott Rapid Diagnostics for up to 7.9 million rapid point of care COVID-19 tests, which would provide results in “approximately 15 minutes.” Anand said it is not an antigen test, but the instruments used to analyze it can be run outside of a major lab, giving rapid results at a clinic or hospital. Health officials said two rapid tests were approved Tuesday. This comes days after another rapid test was approved – the Hyris bCUBE, which must be used in a medical setting. Health Canada has not yet approved any at-home test options. Canada has now identified 155,301 cases of COVID-19. A total of 2,176 cases were reported on Monday, of which 437 cases were backlogged from the weekend and 1,739 were newly identified. That means the total number of daily cases is now on par with the first peak in cases back in April.
