Alberta’s Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Kaycee Madu, joined chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, to provide an update on the COVID-19 situation in the province on Friday. Madu announced that the province was temporarily extending the authority to sanction fines to about 700 peace officers in the province. This will allow the peace officers to help enforce the restrictions announced by the province earlier in the week. Meanwhile, Dr. Hinshaw announced that the province confirmed 1,227 new cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, and another 9 deaths from the disease. The province has recorded 519 deaths since the first case of COVID-19 was discovered.
