Coronavirus: Alberta health minister says vaccine rollout will take longer amid federal delay | FULL

Global News published this video item, entitled “Coronavirus: Alberta health minister says vaccine rollout will take longer amid federal delay | FULL” – below is their description.

Alberta’s Health Minister Tyler Shandro on Friday said the province’s rollout of a COVID-19 vaccine will take longer after vaccine maker Pfizer said they’re going to be re-tooling their production facilities to increase production.

The health minister says the delay announced by the federal government earlier in the day will impact Alberta’s planned rollout. To date, more than 74,000 Albertan’s had been vaccinated and they were on track to vaccinate 50,000 people a week by the end of January.

Shandro said they will continue to share information as they get it and will continue to get “doses of the vaccine into the arms of Albertans as soon as we receive them.”

The news of the delay comes as Alberta Health reported an additional 13 deaths in the province due to COVID-19 had been reported in the last 24 hours.

There have now been 1,402 COVID-19 deaths in Alberta.

As of Friday’s update, there were 769 people in hospital, with 124 of those people in the ICU.
