The head of the UK’s Vaccine Taskforce says uncertainties remain over how much protection any vaccines can give for coronavirus, and for how long. ‘A partially effective vaccine is better than no vaccine at all,’ she told Sky News. ‘Flu vaccines are 50% effective, but they are widely used and have a big impact on reducing the clinical impacts of flu in the population.’ A phase 3 trial of the Novavax vaccine in underway at the Royal Free Hospital in London. The US biotechnology firm is to enrol more people out of 270,000 volunteers aged between 18 and 84 as the development process continues.
