For 20 years, reality TV dating shows have provided escapism and entertainment, but at times have perpetuated damaging stereotypes. Contestants from “Love is Blind,” “Flavor of Love” and “Married at First Sight” discuss their experiences trying to find love on television. (Extended cut.)

Becky “Buckwild” Johnston discusses how she used Craigslist to land a spot on VH1’s “Flavor of Love 2” in 2006 and the unique ways she earned money after appearing on “Charm School” and “I Love Money.” Maya Benberry from “Catching Kelce” talks about racial stereotypes and how she was edited to look like a villain after NFL player Travis Kelce chose her out of 50 women on the 2016 E! show. Others like Josie Goldberg from “Farmer Wants a Wife” and Sonia Granados from the 4th season of “Married at First Sight” discuss why they wanted to find love and Mark Cuevas from Netflix’s “Love is Blind” talk about if he has any regrets.
