    Confusion over government guidance on travel into and out of Indian Covid variant hotspots has become even more muddied with several areas saying they had now been informed do-not-travel advice is incorrect.

    The government has been accused of “incompetence” after advising against all but essential travel in eight areas of England where the Covid variant first identified in India is spreading fastest.
