En respuesta, los ministerios de salud y deporte españoles, siguiendo las directrices de la OMS, desarrollaron la iniciativa “Deportes seguros”. Su objetivo es ayudar a que las competiciones deportivas se reanuden de forma segura, para los atletas y el personal, las autoridades españolas han adoptado un enfoque basado en el riesgo para evaluar el nivel de riesgo, encontrar soluciones para abordar los riesgos y comunicar esas medidas al público.
