‘Coincidence?’ Royal experts react to Queen Elizabeth’s funeral including the seating plan. As has become customary at grand family gatherings all eyes were on who sat where, world leaders and foreign royals ditched their limousines for coaches, but it was who sat where that caught the eye of the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden. ‘You had Joe Biden, the leader of the free world, but not in the most prominent position at all, that really was reserved for the foreign royal families who were seated directly opposition our Royal Family,’ he tells Palace Confidential. ‘Because that’s what it was, a family funeral as well as a state funeral and they would have more precedence, a more prominent role than the various heads of state.’
It seems that fewer eyes, however, were on the Duchess of Sussex, who TV viewers could not have seen so clearly due to the presence of large candle between her and the cameras. ‘There I was, watching the coverage on television and you couldn’t see Meghan, said Richard. There was this really tall candle right in front of the view of the camera. By coincide Harry and Meghan seemed to be seated behind the tallest member of the Royal Family – Tim Laurence, Princess Anne’s husband, now that could be coincidence, but as we know everything was planned meticulously.’
That was no coincidence, adds Andrew Pierce. ‘The Queen was a master diplomat, she could have written the text book on diplomacy, very skilled,’ he says. ‘She would have worked out every single detail and she would have thought about it from every single perspective and she knows that Abbey very, very well and she knows where the candles are.’
