A young couple has spent the night in near-freezing temperatures in Blue Mountains bushland with just a blanket. Unable to get out of a canyon at Mount Tomah, exposed to the elements and suffering hypothermia, it took a major rescue operation to bring them to safety.

22-year-old Nathan Larner is a regular climber. He and his girlfriend Kate Champion were unable to find their way back after exploring Claustral Canyon.
