Cleveland Guardians: Baseball team officially changes name from “Indians”

Global News published this video item, entitled “Cleveland Guardians: Baseball team officially changes name from “Indians”” – below is their description.

Officials with Cleveland’s Major League Baseball team, formerly known as the “Indians” spoke Friday about the decision to officially change the name to the “Guardians.”

The baseball club’s announcement ended months of internal discussions triggered by what many considered as a national reckoning by institutions and teams to permanently drop logos and names considered racist.

The organization spent most of the past year whittling down a list of potential names that was at nearly 1,200 just over a month ago. But the process quickly accelerated and the club landed on Guardians.
