Clashes broke out late Monday into Tuesday after police in Paris cleared out a new migrant camp in the city’s Place de la Republique. Police could be seen hitting demonstrators as they moved to clear the square of migrants’ tents, with authorities saying they had been set up without permission. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said he was launching a probe into the clashes, saying images shared on social media were “shocking.” The camp emerged just a week after a bigger, illegal campsite near the French national sports station was cleared out by police.
