The Xinjiang Development Research Center published a report after visiting more than 70 enterprises in Xinjiang and elsewhere in the country. It says that many people in the region are willing to leave their hometowns for work and appreciate the government’s help. The report says a large number of people have found jobs this way, and their income has been raised. It also says workers’ freedom of religious belief is protected, halal food is guaranteed and social security is fully covered.

Xinjiang, an autonomous territory in northwest China, is a vast region of deserts and mountains. It’s home to many ethnic minority groups, including the Turkic Uyghur people. The ancient Silk Road trade route linking China and the Middle East passed through Xinjiang, a legacy that can be seen in the traditional open-air bazaars of its oasis cities, Hotan and Kashgar.
