    A Chinese surveillance ship has positioned itself off the coast of Queensland, where Australian and US troops are about to undertake massive wargames with some other key allies.

    The move comes amid the Morrison government’s tougher rhetoric on China over recent months – such as the head of the Home Affairs department saying the “drums of war” were beating.
