This drill was the first large exercise using real missiles and torpedoes organized on the East China Sea after the discussion on PLA’s combat training. The drill focused more on training in actual combat, conducting combat in systematic frame, and paid more attention to innovation and development. It tested the plans, methods of operation, performance of major weapons and facilities in the real combat situation so as to improve the capabilities of dealing with maritime security threats and fulfilling the mission
