The Chinese Embassy in Canada has released a statement on the ruling of Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou.
It said: “China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this decision, and has made serious representations with Canada.”
A Canadian court has ruled extradition proceedings against Meng Wanzhou can proceed.
According to Justice Heather Holmes of the British Columbia Supreme Court, the fraud charges against Meng satisfied the extradition requirement of “double criminality,” meaning Meng is accused of the considered crime in Canada as well.
Meng’s lawyers will continue to fight the extradition order.
