South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Chinese artist opens up about mental health struggles to fight cultural stigma” – below is their description.
In China, mental illness is rarely discussed publicly. Many are afraid to talk about the issue openly because of a cultural stigma surrounding it. For years, Shanghai artist “Cracks” has kept her bipolar disorder secret due to the lack of social acceptance. She says her artwork is her way of opening a crack to ‘let the light in’ to her life and express her struggles. “Cracks” and 80 other artists are displaying their work in a mental health-themed art exhibition to help raise awareness of the issue.
