South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “China’s zero-Covid policy under pressure as infections rise in major cities” – below is their description.
Covid-19 infections have been rising sharply in China despite increasingly intense controls, testing and lockdowns. More than 8,000 cases were reported in the country on November 9, 2022. The southern city of Guangzhou saw daily case numbers increase from double digit figures in late October to over 2,000 within two weeks. With lockdowns being ordered in many cities, there is growing public discontent and doubts about whether the nation’s zero-Covid policy will work against the more infectious Omicron variant of the virus.
