CGTN published this video item, entitled “China’s role in global peace & development” – below is their description.
Global security issues are increasingly threatening world peace and stability, either in Europe with the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict or in the Asia-Pacific region with Nancy Pelosi’s provocative visit to Taiwan in August. President Xi Jinping’s recent Global Security Initiative aims to mitigate geopolitical risks and provide public security goods and Chinese solutions to pressing challenges. In this special program on World Peace and Security in our series Global Thinkers, Wang Guan talks to Senior Colonel Zhou Bo, a senior fellow at the Center for International Security and Strategy at Tsinghua University; Senior Colonel Zhan Gang, an associate professor at the International College of Defense Studies at the National Defense University of China; Major General Dipankar Banerjee, a former director at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies; Brigadier General El Hadji Babacar Faye, chief of staff at the UN Office of Military Affairs in the Department of Peace Operations; Rana Mitter, professor of history and politics of modern China at Oxford University; and Sourabh Gupta, senior specialist in Asia-Pacific international relations policy at the Institute for China-America Studies. The panelists look at the People’s Liberation Army’s contribution to China’s peaceful rise, its prominent role in peacekeeping operations and how China is fulfilling its obligations as a great power while protecting its fundamental interests at home and abroad.
